How to add spacing to a tweet

Write the post on the left with blank lines between ideas. Copy the version on the right and paste it into X. Empty lines are filled with an invisible character so they are not removed.

Line breaks and the 280-character limit

Every line break counts as a character on X, and the invisible character on an empty line counts as two because of how X weights characters. The counter here uses the same rules, so you can see how much space your spacing costs.

Questions

Good to know.

Does X remove blank lines?

X usually keeps single line breaks, but it can trim trailing spaces and some empty lines, especially at the start or end of a post. Filling empty lines with an invisible character keeps them.

What is the invisible character?

It is the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800). It looks like an empty space, but apps do not treat it as whitespace, so they keep the line it sits on instead of deleting it.

Does the invisible character count toward the limit?

Yes. Each empty line adds one character, which is why the counter shows the length of the spaced version rather than your original text.
