Can I add a line break in a Facebook comment without posting it?

On a computer, Shift + Enter adds a new line. Pasting a comment written here works too, including the blank lines.

What is the invisible character?

It is the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800). It looks like an empty space, but apps do not treat it as whitespace, so they keep the line it sits on instead of deleting it.

Does the invisible character count toward the limit?

Yes. Each empty line adds one character, which is why the counter shows the length of the spaced version rather than your original text.
